One of the world’s largest military and commercial shipyard groups, Fincantieri draws on its vast technological expertise to build and service some of the world’s biggest superyachts.
Fincantieri was founded in 1959 as Società Finanziaria Cantieri Navali – Fincantieri Società per Azioni, a financial holding company for maritime operations that draw on centuries of Italian shipbuilding. In 1984, Fincantieri became an operational company as the result of the merger of eight of its subsidiaries. Already a shipbuilding giant, it doubled its size in 2013 with the acquisition of the Norwegian group VARD. Submarines, cruise ships, fast ferries and other commercial ships are among the many vessels it produces.
While Fincantieri has a network of more than 21 shipyards around the world, its yacht-building operation is headquartered at the Muggiano Shipyard, an Italian naval shipyard established in 1983 in La Spezia, near Genoa. Thanks to its new, 170-metre hanger and other high-tech facilities, the shipyard is capable of building superyachts in an almost unlimited LOA range.
