Imagine you’re on board a superyacht, slicing across open water. The sun’s out, drinks are poured and the horizon is wide. But then, the wind picks up. A few waves start to slap the hull and suddenly that blissful cruise becomes a balancing act. Glasses teeter, guests grab the rail and you feel very unstable.
Now imagine a system that counteracts all of that quietly, automatically and in real time. Quick Group’s MC² Intercepta trim tabs offer active stabilisation that keeps the onboard experience silky smooth, even when the sea has other plans.
On board comfort starts with stability
The MC² stabilisation brand was created with a clear mission: to deliver the smoothest, most stable onboard experience possible. Initially known for its gyro stabilisers, MC² has since expanded to include fins and trim tabs - a complete suite of solutions for yachts of every size and shape.
Among these, the MC² Intercepta range is particularly compelling. The tech adjusts the boat's trim to reduce pitch and roll by up to 50 per cent, adapting to wind, waves and even boat turns in real time. Whether you’re navigating a choppy coast or cruising at speed, the system recalibrates the boat’s alignment to stay level and stable.
“The idea behind MC² is to become the only brand in this market able to provide a complete range of stabilisers that covers all possibilities,” says Lorenzo Mongiardo, chief innovation officer of Quick Group.
It's also worth mentioning its Auto Cleaning Mode. This automatically scrubs the blade at pre-set intervals, even when the yacht isn’t in use, keeping everything running smoothly and avoiding a buildup of dirt that could affect performance.
Intercepta IN series: Plug in, power up, smooth out
Designed for easy installation, the Intercepta IN series is particularly popular for OEMs and refits. The trim tabs are mounted externally on the transom, making installation simple with no need to dig into the hull. Behind the scenes, a central unit reads the dynamics of the boat and predicts adjustments needed to keep things level.
With sizes ranging from 350-1,000 millimetres, the IN series suits a wide range of small to mid-sized vessels, running on 12–24V power via an integrated electric actuator. It’s a plug-and-play system designed for simplicity with a user-friendly interface.
“Installation is very easy because everything is external,” Mongiardo explains. “So there is no need to install internal components related to actuation.”
Intercepta X series: Tailored trim tabs
For larger yachts or more performance-driven vessels, the Intercepta X series offers something more custom. With four standard models and the option to tailor the blade length, this system easily fits into both new builds and bespoke projects.
Unlike the IN series, the motor for the X series sits inside the hull, allowing for more aesthetic integration and more flexible placement, with the motor positioned either centrally or off to one side.
The blades can be sized exactly to your specification, giving owners the freedom to customise performance down to the millimetre. And despite the extra strength, it maintains a user-friendly interface that’s simple and intuitive.
“There’s maximum flexibility here,” Mongiardo adds. “Even though the motor is internal, you still get total freedom of installation and more power to handle complex conditions.”
Intelligent modes, smarter cruising
What really makes the Intercepta range stand out is how smart it is. The system uses a built-in inertial measurement unit to measure acceleration in all directions, powered by proprietary software that reacts in milliseconds.
In Full Auto Mode, it continuously analyses sea conditions and adjusts the trim automatically. For performance and efficiency, Auto Trim Mode fine-tunes the boat’s angle to reduce drag and maximise fuel savings. When wind or uneven weight causes the boat to lean, Auto List Mode kicks in to keep things level and balanced. And for those who prefer a hands-on approach, Manual Mode lets the captain take full control, adjusting trim and list settings as needed. It’s a system that works quietly in the background, or steps aside when you want to take the helm.
