Day Two of the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta gets underway

22 March 2013 • Written by Tim Thomas

Owners and their guests attending the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous in the BVIs had a rude awakening on Friday morning as heavy rain showers swept the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Virgin Gorda docks at first light. It was a damp start following a sparkling evening of entertainment on the YCCS terrace where owners and distinguished guests had enjoyed fine dining and the vocal brilliance of New York-based doo wop group Acapella Soul.

The rain soon gave way to sun and a moderate breeze as the fleet of 20 sailing superyachts prepared to leave the dock for another grand day out on the water, closely followed by the seven motor yachts who today will follow the yachts out onto the course to view the racing at close quarters.

Yesterday’s winners – Salperton in Division A and Parsifal III in Division B – will be hoping to repeat their success, but competition is likely to be fierce. The winds look to be a little lighter than the first day’s racing which could create more of a tactical battle out on the course.

Stay tuned for Twitter and Facebook updates throughout the day, and we will have a full race round-up on boatinternational.com later this evening.
