After yesterday’s exciting sailing in challenging conditions, Day Two of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, dawned in an altogether calmer fashion. As the yachts on the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda docks prepared for a second day competing on the glorious emerald waters of the Costa Smeralda, word came over the VHF radio at 0930 that conditions were good and that all was set for a 1200 start.
The weather looks favourable, with the 30-plus knot winds that swept in from the west yesterday dying down to what looks to be 6-10 knots of breeze from the west. The forecasts for today vary, but it is likely that the wind will switch to the south at some point – potentially making for a tactical headache for the brains on the yachts, and requiring fine trimming skills and slick manoeuvres by the well-prepared crews.
