Vancouver-based studio ER Yacht Design has revealed a new 40-metre explorer yacht concept known as MedEx, conceived for Mediterranean cruising with an emphasis on outdoor living and shallow-water access.

The 40-metre design features a two-metre draught and a 9.5-metre beam, with exterior spaces arranged for social use and day cruising. Open deck areas include a jacuzzi, removable sunshade covers, dedicated storage for tenders and toys, and the option of a certified helicopter landing area.

At sea level, MedEx offers multiple beach club configurations, including folding side terraces that extend usable deck space over the water. The arrangement is intended to support swimming, lounging and social use, while also allowing the yacht to host larger groups for events when required.

MedEx has been engineered for aluminium construction and features an expedition-style hull with a high bow, high topsides and a wide beam. According to the studio, a low centre of gravity and strong form stability are intended to deliver comfort both underway and at anchor, while maintaining ocean-going capability.

Accommodation is arranged for 10 guests across five double cabins. Four guest cabins are located on the main deck, while the owner’s suite is positioned aft on the bridge deck with separate access and proximity to the optional helideck. Below deck, there is accommodation for a crew of 10, alongside technical spaces and storage.

Performance details include an estimated range of 5,500 nautical miles at 10.5 knots. The yacht is also specified with zero-speed stabilisers and a bow thruster to enhance comfort and manoeuvrability.
