Hong Kong-based Simpson Marine has declared 2021 its “best year to date” with a 20% increase in yacht sales year on year.
The yacht sales and service company racked up a total of 135 new and pre-owned yacht sales, as well as growth across all of its business activities, including new yacht sales, brokerage, charter and yacht management.
Sanlorenzo enjoyed a boost from the Asian market in 2021, with Simpson Marine securing numerous sales, including two units of the SD118 immediately after the 2021 world premiere. The largest Sanlorenzo sale made however was for a 52Steel, which is due to be launched later this year.
Increased interest was also seen in brands such as Bluegame, Fairline Yachts and brands of the Beneteau Group.
"Simpson Marine’s mission has always been to bring people closer to the ocean and help them enjoy the freedom of life at sea. It is therefore heartening to see many first-time boat owners being welcomed into the yachting fold during 2020 and 2021," said Mike Simpson, founder and managing director of Simpson Marine.
While yachting activity was largely unaffected by the pandemic in Hong Kong, international travel restrictions hampered the company’s international charter business, which was offset by “unprecedented growth” in domestic charter.
In Hong Kong , the company booked 900 day charters and 40 overnight charters throughout the year. Overall, the company secured 1500 days of booked charter in 2021.
Eight new Sanlorenzo superyachts joined the Simpson Yacht Care and Yacht Management divisions, bringing the total number of yachts under the company’s care to 50.
It comes after full-year brokerage figures for 2021 showed a 71% year on year increase in superyacht sales, with a total of 723 superyachts sold.
