Southern Wind presents their new SW 115 RS sailing yacht series

During the Monaco Yacht Show I was invited on Almagores II, one of the latest Southern Wind yachts launched this year, where the South African yard showed me their new project, the SW 115 RS.

Scheduled to become the new flagship of the yard in the coming years, the SW 115 RS benefited from the knowledge acquired over many years by Southern Wind with their successful series. Designed by the same team, Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yacht Design, this 35 metre sailing yacht was developed to create large volumes outside and inside, without compromising on performance.

Outside, we remark a large cockpit with an innovative layout comprising chaise longues, solarium and lounge/dining area. Inside, the lounge/dining area is full-beam with an extra TV area forward. The SW 115 RS accommodates 8 guests in a full-beam master forward, a VIP, a double and a twin, plus a crew of 5. Crew and guests have separate entries.

Note the possibility to have a fifth double cabin for the guests in place of the third crew cabin. This option gives the possibility to have extra crew or extra guests, a perfect choice for the charter, even more that few 35m sailing yachts have accommodation for 10 guests on the current market. Thanks to her length, the crew quarters are larger and a generous tender garage was created.

Even if no official order is announced for this new series, we understood that the SW 115 RS was created following the wishes of current owners of Southern Wind yachts, and we can imagine that she will become a reality in a near future. Before this, Southern Wind will launch four yachts from 24.7m to 31.4m between December 2012 and 2014.
