Few names carry the same weight as Benetti in the pool of Italian shipyards. Known for its forward-thinking designs, the shipyard has produced some of the most impressive superyachts afloat. Among them is 107-metre Mar, which is one of only three 100-metre-plus yachts ever built by Benetti. With striking, contemporary lines, sprawling deck spaces and palatial interiors, BOAT takes a closer look.
Delivered in 2020 by the Italian shipyard, Mar was constructed to Lloyd’s Register classification with a steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure. Yet Mar’s standout feature is not just her size but her design. “Mar has one deck fewer than a typical 100-metre-plus yacht, which allows for greater ceiling heights throughout and creates a uniquely sleek, iconic profile,” explains BehneMar CEO Tim Trenker. “On board, the yacht offers a true Mediterranean lifestyle, with large windows that allow for maximum natural light in the interiors, flush flooring throughout, and generous interior and exterior spaces that create a palatial feel. Whether spending time on board or living on board completely, she consistently delivers a sense of luxury, spaciousness, ease of use and relaxation.”
Al fresco living
Up top, Mar’s sundeck is described by Trenker as “most likely the longest of any 100-metre-plus yacht”, complete with an eight-metre heated infinity pool flanked by sunpads with panoramic sea views. Above the sundeck, an additional lounge space offers a 360-degree observation experience complete with another firepit.
Outdoor living is at the heart of Mar’s design. Multiple al fresco dining spaces cater to every occasion, including a 16-seat dining table on the bridge deck aft and an enclosed 16-seater on the sundeck for more intimate or climate-controlled settings. The touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck could also be used for entertaining with sweeping views, whether a private dining terrace or even as a yoga deck at sunrise.
Exterior lounges feature retractable shading, offering flexible spaces for relaxation throughout the day, while a main deck aft lounge area with another bioethanol firepit sets the scene for relaxed evening conversations.
Descending to the lower deck reveals a 120-square-metre beach club and spa, which opens directly onto the sea via fold-down balconies. This wellness oasis includes a hammam, massage room, beauty salon and a fully equipped gym, all designed to make guests feel connected to the ocean. Whether it’s a morning workout with sea breezes drifting in or a sunset massage after a day on the water, this is the beating heart of Mar’s onboard lifestyle.
Palatial interiors
Inside, Mar boasts an enormous 3,900GT volume with a spiral staircase crowned by a striking light installation that connects each deck.
The 160-square-metre main saloon features a sit-up bar, lounge area and a 20-seater dining table forward for hosting grand soirées. Above, an 80-square-metre skylounge houses a grand piano, while a dedicated 70-square-metre cinema room offers a cosy escape for movie nights.
Accommodation on board Mar is for 16 guests across eight cabins, including a 110-square-metre owner’s suite on the bridge deck. Stretching the full 14.4-metre beam, the suite includes private balconies on either side, a private office, expansive dressing rooms and a full-beam bathroom. Seven additional VIP cabins on the main deck ensure that “every guest is treated like a VIP”, notes Trenker.
Behind the scenes, there are separate quarters for 34 crew, including two additional cabins for the captain and first officer on the bridge deck. Crew also enjoy their own gym.
Designed to go the distance
Powered by twin 2,800kW Rolls-Royce engines that promise “low consumption and no vibrations”, according to Trenker, Mar cruises comfortably at 16 knots, topping out at 18.5 knots. With a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, she is capable of extended ocean passages.
Mar also has space for a vast collection of tenders and toys, including two custom-built tenders - a 14-metre limousine tender and a nine-metre open tender - as well as Jet Skis, Seabobs, foilboards, paddleboards, inflatables, fishing equipment and scuba diving gear.
Currently lying in Monaco and asking €195,000,000, Mar presents a rare opportunity for a discerning buyer, whether envisioned as a private Mediterranean retreat or charter operations. “This is the ideal superyacht for a true yachting enthusiast who can appreciate the intelligent design of a unique vessel,” says Trenker. “It incorporates all the features one would expect from a 100-metre-plus yacht, while remaining easy to navigate for owners and guests. Thanks to her spacious layout and large windows throughout, you always feel close to the sea and your surroundings.”
