Italian studio Luca Dini Design & Architecture has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of the Republic of Albania to explore a maritime strategy for the country, aimed at positioning Albania as a "new and sustainable hub in the Mediterranean yachting landscape".
The proposal would involve a network of interconnected marinas across the coast that "cooperate rather than compete", sharing resources and infrastructure to improve logistical efficiency, support regional economic growth and reduce environmental impact. There has also been talks to develop new service facilities aimed at the yachting industry such as repair yards, refit stations and high-quality fuelling areas.
"[Albania's] geographic proximity to established superyacht destinations in Greece and Montenegro makes it an appealing new stop for experienced yachtsmen," read a statement from the studio. "We believe that the next 15 years shall offer a unique window of opportunity to position the country as a competitive destination. Without coordinated planning, marinas risk competing against each other and diluting value."
The creation of a new marina network will also present the opportunity to adopt appropriate environmental and social sustainability principles, according to the Italian studio, with a collaborative approach meaning that congestion, pollution and environmental impact can be diffused across the various venues along the coast.
According to BOATPro, Luca Dini Design & Architecture has designed the interiors of 90 yachts, including the recently delivered Heesen superyacht Solemates and the 28-metre Acali by Wider Yachts.
