Charter yacht of the week: 67m Calex the new breed of Benetti

Each week we select one of the world's finest superyachts for charter. This week, BOAT takes a closer look at the 67-metre Benetti motor yacht Calex, delivered in 2022 and first offered for charter in 2023. With an exterior designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta, Calex is an entirely custom project built in steel and aluminium, with a seven-cabin layout that can accommodate 12 guests.

Why charter Calex?

Delivered in 2022, Calex was an important boat for Benetti. She was the first of a new ecological movement and was designed with a human-centred approach. The crew quarters are beyond what you would expect of a superyacht of this size - happy crew, better charter. The commissioning owner of the yacht for charter has had a long list of exceptional yachts, learning from each one and ironing out the creases that keep it from being perfect.

Calex has six decks, including an owner’s deck that occupies 160 square metres and features a lounge with a bar and a 180-degree view, while still offering complete privacy. The master cabin's sliding glass doors open to a private open-air lounge forward, with two white curved sofas and loose furniture. Her long foredeck, vertical bow and well-balanced profile complete the picture.

At 1,250GT, Calex also represents a new breed of economical yachts, being the first in Livorno to be fitted with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which reduces emissions from the diesel generators. The technology meant that the engine room was designed from scratch for this project. Care was taken not to encroach on the beach club, which has all the amenities one would hope to find on board a yacht of this size, including two opening platforms, a bar and a generous seating area.

Interior mood

The main saloon is bright and filled with cream furniture and an abundance of wooden accents, although it feels modern rather than classical. Calex has a large U-shaped sofa, armchairs, a fully stocked bar and a dining table. Thanks to a glass elevator connecting the interior decks, the yacht is also accessible.

The master cabin also features a private office, a spa-like double bathroom with marble, frosted glass and wooden features. Calex’s six further guest cabins include two VIP cabins on the main deck with large vertical windows, two kings, and two convertible twin cabins with Pullmans on the lower deck. All cabins have marble ensuite bathrooms and a flexible layout, in line with charter clients, with various locations available for socialising or relaxing in solitude.

The commissioning owners specifically requested that the crew quarters include materials and furnishings of a similar quality to those used in the guest accommodation, making working conditions on board more comfortable for her 17 crew members. All of them have televisions in their cabins, as well as access to a spacious crew mess. The extra space on the mooring deck has been used for a crew gym.

Out on deck

The sundeck was destined to be a (if not the) key area on board, so much so that the owner extended the decks to ensure ample space for activities, lounging, and dining. Here, there is a dedicated space for workouts and yoga, a Jacuzzi and ample space for relaxation.

The bridge deck features an outdoor lounge area and a bar. Leading down to the water – and considered another one of Calex’s most exceptional features – is the beach club, which has a hammam, another bar, and television, toy and tender storage.
