Why charter Bold
The 85.3-metre superyacht was no easy feat for her Australian builders, SilverYachts, and represents a major achievement for the yard, which switched its focus from slim, elegant builds to refined utilitarian for Bold. Alongside her design, she has an impressive range of nearly 5,000 nautical miles, allowing for far-flung excursions around the world.
With a knife-edge design, striking grey exterior and mighty helideck (certified for a 3.2-tonne, twin-engine, eight-seat Agusta Westland AW109S Grand), Bold wouldn’t look out of place among the destroyers in a naval port. Look a little closer, however, and you’ll see that while these features are tough, they are also immaculately faired as a world cruising superyacht that is designed to immerse her guests in luxury.
Marking the 50th yacht created by the illustrious designer and naval architect Espen Øino, Bold was destined to be a real-world cruiser that could operate economically. To hit the brief, she needed to carry a helicopter, have large outside living areas and very comfortable interiors with connections with the outside.
Bold was also not the first vessel that Øino designed for the commissioning owner – an exciting partnership that has proved successful over the years – as together the owner and designer also worked on several other yachts.
Interior mood
In the main saloon, brightly coloured sofas frame the perimeter of a custom carpet with an intentional "bold" geometric print under a backlit ceiling. Bold forgoes the habitual main deck saloon and dining combination in favour of a spectacular loft arrangement, where a high ceiling measures up to 2.8 metres in the centre. Striking pieces of furniture are then scattered atop a parquet floor made of 2.5-millimetre-thick oak on honeycomb.
Another defining feature of the yacht is the winter garden – an essential component of the world cruising concept, which is centred on indoor-outdoor living. The idea is that this space can be enjoyed anywhere in the world and at just about any time of the year. It is physically and visually connected to the saloon but can be shut off with weathertight doors.
Accommodation on board is for 12 guests across eight guest cabins comprising the owner’s suite, three VIP guest cabins and four double guest cabins. The owner’s suite includes a master cabin, his-and-hers en suite bathrooms and a private saloon with direct access to exterior decks.
Out on deck
Stepping on board, it’s clear that Bold's not just a spectacle from the water. Guests will find a whopping aft deck that is over 30 metres long. Not only can this be used as a lounging space, but also as a party space and a helipad. A movie screen can be found tucked inside the area that also doubles as a heli garage – a fitting, clever design for the Swiss Army Knife of superyachts.
The aft sections of the bulwarks also unfold to provide clearance for the helicopter landing and create terraces over the water.
A true entertainer, the yacht has an additional party space on the sundeck. Here, sunpads sit around a 2,700-litre Jacuzzi that allows cooling off, but it's not visible to onlookers, as it's hidden behind glass that also acts as wind protection. There is also a fire pit and the equipment to set up another movie screen.
While the aft section of the bridge deck can facilitate a second helicopter, there is also a bar, serving stations, two rotisseries and an induction hob, making it a fabulous banqueting space. Contemporary, free-standing furniture by Paola Lenti does a good job of injecting colour.
Toys and wellness
The huge aft deck lends itself perfectly for sports and fitness and can be set up for volleyball or basketball. There is also a range of gym equipment on board in the dedicated air-conditioned gym area of the beach club.
