The Task for the Young Designer of the Year Awards 2018

Below is a brief overview of what you will be required to produce when competing in the 2018 Awards. Once you have entered, you will receive the full version of the task and all supporting documents.

For your chance to win cash prizes and further your career in the superyacht industry by winning this globally recognised award, read on!

You have now been a hardworking member of a leading yacht design studio for several years and have just seen the delivery of a project for which you had been a junior member of the design team. Your next project still awaits some decisions from the owner so, with no work on your horizon for at least three weeks, your boss calls you into his office and provides you with the following brief.

Develop a new design for a 60-metre LOA ‘Explorer Yacht’ that would be capable of cruising the world – from the polar ice to the tropics. Naturally, it should be able to carry and support a helicopter. This design will, eventually, be promoted by Oceanco so it has to be something that is modern and practical.

You will not have to create the hull – this has already been designed by Oceanco – but, as a first priority you must create an ideal interior layout for a yacht of this type before blending this with an a suitable exterior, which will be your second task.

For any questions, please contact youngdesigneroftheyear@boatinternationalmedia.com

Entries are free via a short form via the website. Don't miss your chance to be the next best designer in the superyacht industry and submit your entry!
