The red carpet treatment: Dress your superyacht in ICE International

23 March 2018

ICE International is a respected manufacturer of handmade custom rugs and carpets, with a presence in five-star hotels, luxury restaurants and private residences. Established in 1970 by Frits Janssen, the Netherlands-based company is now run by Janssen’s two sons, Marc and Rogier, who pride themselves on continuing to build on and enhance the stellar reputation of the family business.

The company footprint has grown significantly in recent years and the brand now boasts a strong global presence. With offices in Amsterdam, Paris, Dubai and New York, ICE International has had the opportunity to establish itself in some of the most iconic luxury properties in the world. These include, but are by no means limited to, Four Seasons New York Downtown, the Langham London and Le Royal Monceau Raffles Paris.

Thanks to 47 years of accumulated knowledge and advanced workmanship, there is little the company can’t offer when it comes to the shapes, colours, structures, dimensions and designs available. From inset carpets to loose rugs, wall-to-wall carpets or those on stairs, ICE’s team can meet every request. It is the quality of the materials used, as well as the precisely crafted designs, that has enabled the brand to establish itself as one of the best carpet suppliers in the world. More specifically, ICE International now defines itself as the definitive specialist when it comes to hand-knotted and hand-tufted carpets.

At the core of the brand’s success is a highly skilled in-house design team that works directly with the client to create bespoke designs from scratch or to customise the styles featured in the company’s extensive and exclusive design book. The plans are then realised and translated by the company’s collaborators, one of these being a family of hand-knotting specialists in Nepal with whom ICE International has worked for over four decades.

It is this pillar of the brand’s ethos that has been integral to the company’s success: the sophisticated level of personalised service offered to clients. This has led to lasting professional relationships with some of the most well-respected and significant design firms in the world, including Philippe Starck, Yabu Pushelberg and Hirsch Bedner Associates.

In terms of successful projects, ICE International has a long and varied list of satisfied clients, including being a preferred vendor of the Four Seasons hotel group. Alongside this, the company also recently fitted out The Langham London’s largest suite, the luxurious Sterling Suite. Measuring 450 square metres, the room is now decorated with the finest hand-tufted carpets, made from wool and the very best Chinese silk. In addition, ICE also supplied the hotel with carpets for the Palm Court and the Club Lounge. They were all designed by Richmond International London and the concepts were brought to life by the team at ICE.

Another successful collaboration came with Gilles & Boissier of Paris, who worked with ICE to develop and produce handmade rugs for the lobby of the iconic Baccarat Hotel in New York. And when it comes to high-end residential projects for the company, one success story comes from Moscow, where ICE collaborated with interior designer Marina Filippova on a hand-knotted rug made from Tibetan and New Zealand wool and pure silk for a private home. With its success in the hotel and private residency market, ICE International is now stepping into new territory, transferring its talents to the world of superyachts and private jets, creating bespoke designs for use at sea and in the air.
