A passion for design

Founded in 1992 by Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, Nuvolari Lenard quickly emerged as a design force to be reckoned with. With a profound sensibility for design, Nuvolari Lenard infuses each project with fresh perspectives and a genuine passion that keeps its work at the forefront of the industry.

Carlo Nuvolari, co-founder of Nuvolari Lenard attributes the firm’s success to its passion and deep connection with the sea. “I think we’re good at what we do because we’re passionate about what we do,” Nuvolari says. “A crucial aspect of all our projects has been the fact that both of us grew up sailing. I’ve always found it bizarre that there are a lot of people in this industry, from designers to builders, who don’t go boating or have a relationship with the sea. That, to me, seems fundamental if you want to design or build yachts.”

A broad spectrum of projects

Nuvolari Lenard’s diverse portfolio is a testament to its versatility and creative prowess. From collaborating with esteemed shipyards, such as Oceanco, Lürssen, Palmer Johnson and CRN, to designing series boats for production builders, such as Jeanneau-Beneteau, the firm’s reach is extensive. Its ability to seamlessly transition between one-off superyachts and production boats showcases its adaptability and unwavering commitment to design excellence.

Nuvolari Lenard’s journey took a significant turn when an impromptu meeting with Mike Kelsey Sr., the former owner of Palmer Johnson, resulted in the design duo being entrusted with the exterior and interior of the magnificent 59.5-metre La Baronessa (now named Pearl). This groundbreaking project, delivered in 1998, still holds the distinction of being the largest all-aluminium yacht built in the US. It set the stage for Nuvolari Lenard’s ascent to greater heights and iconic projects such as 141.6-metre Nord, 114.1-metre Ahpo (now named Lady Jorgia), 109-metre Bravo Eugenia, 106.7-metre Black Pearl, 86.1-metre Quattroelle, 86-metre Man of Steel, 85.4-metre Vibrant Curiosity, 81.2-metre Alfa Nero, 64-metre Lady M, 64-metre Spirit of the C’s, 62-metre Voice and 54.8-metre Atlante, redefining the boundaries of yacht design.

A bright future

As Nuvolari Lenard enters its fourth decade, the studio is currently filled with iconic projects. The new NL Plus line represents a holistic approach to yacht design, encompassing the studio's extensive knowledge, vibrant Italian style and commitment to bespoke quality. The new range includes the 47-metre S1 model, the 52-metre NL 50 Plus, the NL 60 Plus and NL 65 Plus.

“The NL range and the S1 model not only epitomise the freedom and luxury that a superyacht offers but also capture the expertise in all stages of design and construction that the Nuvolari Lenard team has garnered over three decades at the forefront of the industry,” says Nuvolari. “The essence of these projects is in the details, from the best of Italian style to the finest finishing, and from the considered layout to the balance of form and function. The opportunity to offer clients all of this in a beautifully curated package is something that fills the entire studio team with excitement and pride.”

The construction of the first S1 model is well underway at the Turkish shipyard Mengi Yay—a traditional family-owned shipyard with close to 60 years of experience. Meanwhile, work has already commenced on the second S1 hull. Simultaneously, construction is progressing on the first 52-metre NL 50 Plus model.
