The classic 31.4-metre sailing yacht Eros has received a $1,000,000 price reduction to her sales listing with Dominic Meredith Hardy of Classic Charters.
Eros has a remarkable history. She was first launched in 1939 by British shipyard Brooke Marine, commissioned by an American businessman as a "large, safe and easily handled world-cruising schooner" and constructed in teak on steel frames to a design by William McMeek.
Following the war, she changed hands to Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos, who welcomed a VIP guest list onboard, including King Juan Carlos of Spain (who honeymooned aboard in 1962) and composer Cole Porter.
Following her storied early years, Eros has had three further owners, each of whom have maintained and preserved the sailing yacht for both family and charter use. Most notably, she underwent an extensive 20-year rebuild in California from 1990 to 2010, which saw "every plank, system, and fitting either painstakingly restored or replaced to modern standards" and rebuilt with longevity in mind.
More recently, her current owners have continued a rigorous program of upgrades at respected yards, with works including the fitting of new navigation systems, extensive hull and rig servicing, rudder and transom rebuilds, and full deck varnish and detailing.

The twin cabins share a day head and shower, while the two larger cabins are en suite. All cabins have individual air conditioning, as well as opening hatches for natural ventilation. There are separate quarters for up to 12 crew.
Aft of the accommodation, guests can enjoy a full-beam main saloon with sofa seating on both sides – one arranged around a dining table. Above, the deck house offers a comfortable space when cruising under sail, with easy access to an inviting dining table on deck. Outside, her open deck space houses tenders and toys, in addition to sun loungers for ultimate relaxation when at anchor.
Eros has had an exceptional charter history, cruising extensively in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and New England, USA. According to her brokers, "she combines the character of a true classic – Burmese teak planking, bronze fittings, sweeping schooner lines – with the reliability of a fully modernised yacht," representing an "exceptional" opportunity for charter use or private enjoyment.
