The latest edition of Camper & Nicholsons International’s newsletter Radar is now available to read online. It features the latest launches through CNI brokers, a focus on Italy’s CRN yard and a choice selection of new central agency listings for sale. There’s also a list of projects under construction and, of course, an extensive feature on yachts available for charter worldwide. There’s a particularly interesting piece by Laurent Perignon, CNI’s Director of Marketing headed “A Buyer’s Market” which looks at the actual figures behind the spate of new central agencies and price cuts in the brokerage market. According to his analysis the end of 2008 saw around 1750 boats over 24m on the market compared with around 1000 at the end of 2007. He goes on to say that January this year saw over 180 price reductions affecting more than 10% of the marketplace and totalling an overall reduction in value of over $150 million. This really is a must-read snapshot of an industry rapidly having to adjust itself to new global realities.
