Buying a boat for the first time is, unsurprisingly, a big deal. Sometimes, it can take decades to make the decision, but for some, it's a matter of now or never. Either way, the yacht listings on BOAT are a good starting point.
Six superyachts perfect for first time buyers
This pocket superyacht was intended to offer owners a neat way to explore some of the world’s most spectacular waters. A design by Nauta Design and build work by Maori has given her a luxury Italian style that focuses on ensuring all those on board are comfortable when cruising. Originally delivered in 2014, Matariki received a major refit in 2015 that included a new configuration of the aft deck, a new arrangement of the sunbed and an enlarged saloon with a closed bulkhead. All in mint condition, Matariki’s wide-open spaces are the perfect place to enjoy the thrilling top speeds of 43 knots with everything kept stable thanks to her set of gyroscopic seakeepers.
For something a little more classic, the 36-metre Andrea is a 1986 Baglietto-build that still oozes the chic style that fits in perfectly to life in the French Riviera. Having been fully refitted in 2002 with regular updates since, Andrea’s new owner will be benefiting from her current owner’s meticulous care and attention. Her current owner has kept her only for private use and has enjoyed time on board in the Mediterranean along with up to seven additional guests who have stayed overnight in her four luxurious en-suite staterooms and made use of the yacht’s tender and Jetski.
Aspiring owners who know a thing or two about the business will know that Asya is the second superyacht in Dutch yard Heesen’s restyled 47m class – a breed of yachts whose exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects comes with elegantly traditional lines and contemporary style. This design has been created by continuous glass windows and matching black paintwork on the main deck and upper decks. Other interesting aspects of her design include the sophisticated interior from the London-based and award-winning studio Bannenberg & Rowell that has a distinctly Far Eastern feel inspired by the designs of Dieter Rams, Frank Lloyd-Wright and Tadao Ando.
The extrovert metallic look never goes unnoticed, as proven by Andrea Vallicelli’s design for the ISA motor yacht Philmx. The same can be said for her interior, which thanks to designer Sandrine Melot, can fit up to 10 guests in an eye-catching contemporary setting with plenty of dazzling and decorative Swarovski crystals. If relaxing indoors isn’t quite the vibe for her new owner, Philmx offers a jacuzzi, sun pads, gym, a swim platform and tender garage – perfect for alfresco fun.
27.33 m PrivateGG
For some new owners, the perfect yacht is one that can act as a blank canvas. However, those interested in PrivateGG will find that she already has everything one could need onboard. According to her brokers, no other yacht in the same size category boasts the volume that PrivateGG does – which includes 280-square-metres of interior space, exceptional headroom and a big enough layout to include a 59-square-metre sundeck and extended sea terrace. Built by Wally in 2018 with an interior design by Albert Pinto, this 27 WallyAce model is stylish, completely bespoke and decorated with materials such as white satin lacquer, grey bleached oak and ivory fabrics.
33.91m Black and White
Launched by the well-known British builder Sunseeker in August 2010, Black and White is a special version of the 34m range and benefits from many high-end upgrades. Furnished with custom Fendi pieces, Black and White is a cruiser that is comfortable and fashionable for those who like to travel with friends and family. As up to 10 guests can be accommodated in five staterooms across two decks, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained onboard. If not socialising in the saloon or in the dining area, guests can jump in the outdoor Jacuzzi or meet at the large bar on the flybridge.
