Newcastle motor yacht Sovereign sold

29 March 2021 • Written by Malcolm MacLean

The 54.9 metre Newcastle motor yacht Sovereign, listed for sale with Michael Mahan at Worth Avenue Yachts, has been sold with the buyer introduced by Jim McConville of Allied Marine, and Michael Rafferty and Barbara Stork Landeweer of IYC.

Formerly Harbour Island, this yacht for sale became the flagship of Newcastle Marine when she was launched in 2011, both the largest ship the American yard had ever built and the first hull of the Newcastle 5500 series. Built in steel and aluminium she has been upgraded continuously since her launch under the supervision of Patton Marine Surveyors and a hull respray since her renaming has heightened the powerful exterior styling by Murray & Associates.

Sovereign was asking $23,950,000

Sovereign is just as impressive within – at 1,100GT, she has a similar living space as many 60 metre yachts. Interior designer Claudette Bonville has created six luxurious cabins to accommodate up to 14 guests. The pick of the quarters are the upper deck master suite with a 270 degree view and the main deck master suite with eight metre long windows.

Additional amenities include an infinity pool on the split-level sundeck with a bar and a raised veranda on the main aft deck. There is also an expansive built-in seating area in the aft deck al fresco dining area. She is wheelchair accessible and accommodation for up to 14 crew allows first class service.

ABS classed and MCA compliant, Sovereign is equipped with zero-speed stabilisers and state-of-the-art electronics for maximum comfort at sea. She cruises at 12 knots and hits 15 knots with the throttles forward, powered by twin 3512B Caterpillar engines.

Sovereign was asking $23,950,000.
