Superyacht Haida G now eighty years young

For my history lesson today I learned that the 71.7m classic superyacht Haida G, currently listed for sale by Peter Hurzeler of Ocean Independence, has now celebrated 80 years of giving pleasure and entertainment to generations of yachtsmen.

Formerly known under a number of names, the most recent being Rosenkavalier, she was delivered as Haida in 1929 by Krupp Germania Werft in Kiel for a US business tycoon, and was variously under ownership by Greek, Egyptian, British and Japanese yachtsmen and even served the US Navy during WWII as USS Argus. Her current owners spent two years in 2004/2005 completely renovating her to bring her back to her former glory and she has been overhauled to MCA standards, restoring her reputation as one of the world's most popular charter superyachts.

She accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms, although she's been known to host exuberant parties for 150 guests when in port, and is on the market at €23 million.
