26 March 2024 • Written by Nick Jeffery

The 25-metre classic ketch Altair, built in the Netherlands in 1987 by Van Dam Nordia, has had a change of broker and is now listed for sale, at a reduced asking price, with Nicolas Marchand of Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage.

With a long keel, aluminium hull and hydraulic furling sails, Altair is a true bluewater cruiser, designed by naval architect Robert Van Dam. Up to eight guests are accommodated in four en suite cabins. There are quarters for two crew in one cabin.

Altair is lying in Saint Raphael, France, now asking €1,100,000.

The interior spaces on board this yacht for sale are welcoming and comfortable. Classic Dutch styling is found throughout and the use of refurbished white cabinetry further enhances the spaces. The main saloon has a large U-shaped sofa that can accommodate up to eight. The centrally-located galley is a feature that allows for easy service, with her rounded corners and grab rails proving she was designed by experienced yachtsmen.

Altair’s deck offers a spacious cockpit with sheltered al fresco dining at a large teak table. She has a solar panel in her Bimini top for increased self-suffiency. A propeller shaft alternator offers charging while sailing and a 200-litre hot water capacity can be heated by the main engine or the generator.

The ketch has been meticulously maintained throughout her life, including a three-year, major refit from 2017 to 2020 encompassing a stern extension. With a new paint job in 2020, the MCA-certified Altair is ready to set sail worldwide with new owners.

Altair is lying in Saint Raphael, France, now asking €1,100,000.
