Antonini Navi presents 28m XPD88 explorer with Sculli Studio

8 November 2022 • Written by Brooke Murphy

Italian shipyard Antonini Navi has teamed up with Sculli Studio to present a 28 metre custom expedition model named the XPD88.

To be built entirely in steel, the model is the first in a new line of explorers by Mauro Sculli’s architecture studio and has been designed to offer "the slow cruising experience", according to the shipyard.

The vessel's tri-deck configuration boasts a wide selection of lounging spaces across its three decks, with sunpads on the main deck aft, above on the owner's private terrace and at the bow.

The upper deck is dedicated to the owner with an aft-facing master suite that offers the view-factor through wraparound windows with a skylight above. A private terrace looks out over the aft deck with skylights in the floor that allows natural light to filter through to the level below.

“The XPD88 completes the promise we made at the launch of the shipyard, which included the production of full custom yachts, entirely made-to-measure, said Simone Antonini, CEO at Antonini Navi. “This new project is the result of the creativity of a designer who was introduced to us by the client and with whom we have never worked before, reflecting great flexibility.”

The project boasts three propulsion solutions in addition to the traditional diesel one. It will be possible to choose a diesel-electric hybrid engine, promoting environmental sustainability and providing long-term economic benefits.

“I am confident this project will be the first of a long series,” said Aldo Manna, partner and sales manager at the La Spezia shipyard. “The XPD88 is an ambitious and atypical project with a strong personality. It will open up a new market for Antonini Navi, that of metal pleasure boats, which have seen exponential growth in recent years.”

Also under construction at the shipyard is the 40 metre UP40 which was started on speculation.
