First look inside super-fast 70-knot Bolide 80

Victory Design has released the first images of its 24.9-metre Bolide 80 model. The Italian team, headed up by Brunello Acampora, reported eye-watering sprint speeds of around 73 knots during sea trials in mid-April, making her one of the fastest superyachts in the world

Described as a "hyper muscle yacht", the all-carbon Bolide 80 has been built in-house by Victory Design and has now departed the hangar in Pisa for a shakedown cruise.

The yacht's propulsion comes from triple MAN 12 V 2000 diesel engines, each delivering around 2,000 horsepower. Range at maximum speed is predicted to be 200 nautical miles, while she is expected to have a range of 345 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 55 knots.

Her impressive top speeds are made possible with a "multi-stepped" planing hull that generates low frictional resistance. In terms of fuel consumption, she consumes 11 litres per mile at 40 knots, 13 litres per mile at 55 knots and 16 litres per mile at 70 knots. The Bolide 80 also harnesses foiling technology, working with two independent rudders "to manage the boat safely even at high speeds", according to Victory Design.

The yacht's sporty exterior has been designed with aerodynamic engineering in mind, with a hardtop tailored to reduce resistance at high speeds.

“It was impossible to approach this project with a traditional, moderate and predictable method of thinking. The degree of innovation was so significant that it was impossible to draw inspiration from something familiar. We chose instead to take a risk and create an authentic and unique solution, giving life to the Bolide style that definitively opens a new path for yacht design," explained Damian Ufor Colman, Victory Design style office director.

Interior design is a collaboration between Stefano Faggioni and Victory's internal design team. Hull one has used a colour palette of matte black and punchy orange, with marble, leather, silk and Loro Piana fabrics throughout.

The interior configuration features a main saloon on the lower deck amidships, which can be transformed into a second cabin if needed. The owner's cabin is in the most forward part of the hull and is accessed via a "vestibule" that also doubles as the wardrobe.

The Bolide project will be made up of a limited fleet of nine models ranging from 18 to 50 metres, with the Bolide 80 marking the first iteration.

Bolide 80 is a BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards finalist. She has been nominated in five categories, including Innovation of the Year and the Eco Award.
