Demetrius Tanase unveils "emotive" 80m Simply Custom yacht concept Ardour

9 May 2025 • Written by Emily Dawkins

Design studio Demetrius Tanase Yacht Design has unveiled a new, 80-metre concept known as Ardour: a new addition to the portfolio of superyacht designs within Dutch shipyard Oceanco's Simply Custom range

Designed to simplify the commissioning process of a new build, Simply Custom offers clients a proven technical platform by Lateral Naval Architects with extensive exterior and interior customisation options. The 80-metre range is equipped with all-electric propulsion, a top speed of 16.5 knots and volume of 2,500-2,700GT, while the entire look of the superyacht remains entirely custom.

Ardour is now presented as one design offered to clients in the range, noted by lead designer Demetrius Tanase to be a "testament to this collaborative philosophy".

With a name meaning enthusiasm and passion, according to Tanase, "every element of its [Ardour's] design is rooted in emotion, with a focus on calmness, relaxation, and refined elegance."

Characterised by sweeping, soft and subtly-curved lines, the 80-metre superyacht's modern yet "nostalgic" profile takes inspiration from classic wooden yachts, finished in a warm, neutral colour palette with slivers of gold metal inlays.

Designed to provide an "immersive and luxurious" onboard experience, each of Ardour's decks offers bounds of space for relaxation and entertaining. Dominating the main deck aft is the overhanging infinity pool, which is flanked by sunpads. Glass-bottomed, the pool reflects light onto the indoor pool of the expansive beach club below, a space which also benefits from double fold-down platforms on both sides, creating a versatile U-shaped area connected to the stern swim platform.

Moving upwards, the owner's deck is a haven of relaxation. There is an al fresco dining and lounge area for 14 guests aft, while a private jacuzzi and sunpads and a touch-and-go helipad can be found on the foredeck. The master suite itself is fitted with a rotating bed, allowing the owner to turn to each and every view, while the remaining guest accommodation – comprising six cabins – resides on the main deck.

Up top, the sundeck is host to a third pool, in addition to sunpads, a lounge space, a bar and barbecue. Championing the Simply Custom philosophy, every detail on board Ardour has been custom-designed, including the loose exterior furniture placed across each of the four decks.

Further technical details of the Simply Custom range include full compatibility with alternative renewable diesel fuels such as HVO, a "highly optimised" stabilisation system, pod drives and onboard battery storage.

This unveiling follows the introduction of other Simply Custom concepts, such as Messerschmitt Yachts' 80-metre design MTT Voyageur, which was revealed at the end of 2024.
