Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has taken the opportunity of this year's Cannes Yachting Festival to provide an official launch date for the first 74Steel. In a conference led by Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo Perotti, the hybrid model was confirmed to be hitting the water this October – at which point it will make history as Sanlorenzo's largest yacht to date.

There have been no updates on the project since 2023, when she was moved to the builder's La Spezia facilities for outfitting. The 74-metre model started life as a 72Steel, but has since been reclassified as Sanlorenzo's new flagship 74Steel range. The design of the 1,900GT vessel saw Sanlorenzo team up once again with Zuccon International Project and Francesco Paszkowski Design.

The owner's cabin will have a dedicated deck above the bridge deck, while the main deck will be the area reserved for guests with lounge areas and five spacious cabins. One of the model's major features will be an extensive wellness area to ensure relaxation for all guests on board, which will make full use of the yacht's 13.1-metre beam.

Speaking at the keel-laying in 2022, Antonio Santella, vice president of sales at Sanlorenzo, said: "[The yacht] is aiming to become one of the new protagonists of the Sanlorenzo range, thanks also to the hybrid diesel-electric engine system, which confirms again the company's increasing attention to the future, constantly studying concrete solutions to reduce the impact of its yachts on the marine ecosystem."

"The hybrid diesel-electric engine system represents a combination of innovative solutions which make it possible to significantly reduce emissions into the atmosphere and the sea, ensure high levels of comfort and rationalise the spaces dedicated to the engine area in favour of the internal volume available for owners and guests, thus presenting itself as a new paradigm for superyachts of this size," he added.

The 74Steel was sold in December 2021 by Edmiston and will dethrone the shipyard's current flagship, Attila, by an extra six metres.
