The insider's guide to the Monaco Grand Prix by yacht

2 June 2026 • Written by Holly Margerrison

From trackside berths and floating hospitality suites to charter yachts hosting clients and parties stretching long into the night, there is no other Grand Prix quite like Monaco. Whether you're considering attending for the first time or planning a return visit, BOAT covers everything you need to know about experiencing the Monaco Grand Prix by superyacht...

Few sporting events are as closely linked to the superyacht world as the Monaco Grand Prix. For one week each spring, the Principality becomes the centre of Formula One, luxury hospitality and yachting, with Port Hercule transformed into one of the most exclusive viewing venues on the sporting calendar.

Why is the Monaco Grand Prix such a major yachting event?

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is unique because the race unfolds through the heart of the city, wrapping around Monaco's harbourfront and passing directly beside Port Hercule. As a result, superyachts and luxury charter yachts become part of the spectacle itself.

Many of the best berths offer direct views of sections of the circuit, while yachts for charter provide private hospitality platforms for owners, guests, sponsors and Formula One teams. During race week, the harbour becomes one of the most photographed collections of superyachts – covering both sailing yachts and motor yachts for charter – anywhere in the world.

The event is also a key fixture in the F1 Grand Prix social calendar, attracting yacht owners, charter clients, brokers, financiers, celebrities and motorsport figures.

Can you watch the Monaco Grand Prix from a yacht?

Yes, but the quality of the view depends entirely on where the yacht is berthed. The most sought-after berths in Port Hercule overlook sections of the circuit such as Tabac, the Swimming Pool complex and the harbour straight. Guests on these yachts can watch portions of the race unfold from the deck while enjoying private hospitality.

It's worth noting, however, that even the best berths do not provide a view of the entire circuit. Most guests combine trackside viewing with television coverage, hospitality programmes and time ashore. For many attendees, the appeal is not simply watching the race but experiencing the atmosphere from the heart of Monaco's floating social scene.

Where do yachts berth during Monaco Grand Prix week?

Port Hercule is the centre of the action and remains the most desirable location during race weekend. Berths along the Quai des États-Unis and the harbour's prime trackside positions are often reserved well in advance and command significant premiums. Many are secured by long-standing clients, sponsors or hospitality operators years before the event takes place.

What happens when Monaco's berths are full?

When Monaco's berths are full, yachts frequently base themselves elsewhere along the Côte d'Azur, including:

  • Cap d'Ail
  • Beaulieu-sur-Mer
  • Villefranche-sur-Mer
  • Antibes
  • Cannes

Guests can then travel into Monaco by tender, car or helicopter depending on location and logistics.

How much does a Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter cost?

Monaco Grand Prix week is one of the most expensive periods in the Mediterranean charter calendar. Demand often exceeds supply, particularly for yachts with premium harbour berths. Charter rates vary significantly depending on yacht size, berth location and hospitality arrangements, but clients should expect to pay a substantial premium compared with a standard spring charter.

Many charters are booked specifically for race weekend and may include specific packages, including VIP race viewing, onboard hospitality, fine dining experiences, concierge services, tender transfers and event access and entertainment. For the most desirable yachts and berths, bookings are frequently secured months – and sometimes years – in advance.

Last-minute charter deals and opportunities do occasionally emerge, particularly on larger charter yachts, but flexibility is essential. For first-time attendees, working with an experienced charter broker can be invaluable when navigating berth availability, hospitality packages and local logistics.

Which yachts attend the Monaco Grand Prix?

The fleet changes every year, but Monaco consistently attracts some of the Mediterranean's most recognisable superyachts. BOAT will be tracking the largest attendees and the yachts for charter with the help of BOATPro's AIS fleet tracker. There are a range of superyachts at anchor for the Grand Prix and yachts for charter with trackside berths.

What are the best parties during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend?

The Monaco Grand Prix has developed a reputation as one of the world's most glamorous sporting events and much of that reputation comes from what happens off the track. Throughout the week, yachts host client entertainment, brand activations, sponsor events, private dinners and invitation-only celebrations. Last year, the 72.6-metre Lürssen superyacht Coral Ocean became home base for the McLaren team and its sponsors, with driver Lando Norris and fellow McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri spotted on board during race week.

Yet, the social programme extends beyond Port Hercule to Monaco's hotels, beach clubs, rooftop venues and waterfront restaurants. While some parties are highly publicised, many of the most sought-after invitations remain firmly behind closed doors.
