A fire broke out at the Lürssen shipyard in Lemwerder on Wednesday evening (28 June).
A preliminary police report has indicated that the fire started around 6.47pm during welding work on one of the shipyard's new constructions. Plastic ventilation pipes are believed to have caught fire creating a significant amount of smoke.
Emergency services arrived and the fire was quickly extinguished with 95 firefighters on the scene. All employees were evacuated from the shipyard with one taken to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation.
The fire spread to two machines that were in close proximity and the total damage is estimated at around €70,000. According to police, the construction hall and ship have not been affected by the fire.
