Australian shipyard McConaghy Boats has announced the launch of the first unit from its GT86 power catamaran series. The 25.5-metre new build was rolled out of her build shed at the yard's Zhuhai facilities in China, marking a significant milestone for the builder as a "new era" in its portfolio.
The launch comes after “nearly two years in the making”, according to the yard, to bring superyacht-inspired living, long-range capability and high-speed performance together in a compact, composite catamaran.
A broad 9.2-metre beam characterises the design - born from a focus on putting life on the water at its core.
As such, onboard living spaces include a bright and spacious main deck saloon, complete with fitted sofa seating on both sides and a large dining table; the space benefits from expansive wraparound glazing, providing bounds of natural light in and panoramic views out. Opening doors lead aft to a wide terrace lounge with sunpads, where broad twin staircases lead to the water for easy enjoyment when at anchor.
In terms of accommodation, below deck lies a "substantial" owner’s suite alongside multiple guest cabins in a flexible configuration, all designed to provide comfort and privacy. The interior scheme favours a natural approach, with light woods, textural fabrics and a warm palette of neutral tones.
The GT86 will also be the first to feature McConaghy's new integrated vessel control, allowing owners to access all systems via an interface likened to an iPad. The yard noted that the system will be rolled out across selected McConaghy builds moving forward.
Power for the catamaran comes from twin Volvo IPS 1350 engines, delivering a top speed of approximately 28 knots. Paired with a 15,000-litre fuel capacity, she is set to offer a far-reaching range of over 3,000 nautical miles.
The GT86 will now undertake initial sea trials and onboard systems commissioning in preparation for delivery to her owner.
The shipyard celebrated the unveiling of its new 20.7-metre MC68 model earlier this year.
