Nautor Swan used the opportunity of the Venice Boat Show to outline the development of the brand’s new motor yacht division. The Finnish sailing yacht specialist first entered the motor yacht market in 2021 with its 13.2-metre Shadow tender and its portfolio will soon be expanding with the new Overshadow series.
The two models share the same Finnish designer Jarkko Jamsen, and the new model is set to splash in July, debuting at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The Shadow was introduced to the market as a superyacht tender, conceived as a chase boat for the Swan Maxi yachts. Since then, the project has evolved to become a weekender, supply vessel or day boat.
“The overall visuality follows the same design DNA as the Swan Shadow, with a strong connection to Nautor Swan sailing yacht heritage at the core of the design,” said Jamsen.
Built in GRP in Italy at Oversea, dubbed the “Casa Shadow” facility, the Overshadow has been hailed as a high-performance version, a “grand-turismo,” boasting additional space below deck and the ability for longer-distance cruising. Based on the Shadow’s hull, the Overshadow will feature inboard engines enabling more space on the flush deck hosting a wet bar and a two-metre-long sun pad, as well as a dining area with extra seating.
Meanwhile, inside, it will offer a choice of two alternative layouts of double or twin-bed configurations. Both layouts feature a larger ensuite than the predecessor. The renderings highlight a timeless interior design, light upholstery and a colour palette option of either brown or blue detailing.
“For the Swan Overshadow, we wanted to create something with more liveable space onboard. This model has a more spacious front cabin and offers more protection in the helm area. The Overshadow is widening the range of use cases into longer stays and weekend getaways,” explained Jamsen.
Preliminary specifications for the Overshadow feature two Volvo Penta engines, with navigation and automation from Garmin. A maximum speed range between 37 and 52 knots and a fuel capacity of 1,000 litres is estimated for the Overshadow.
The news follows the Shadow units being launched worldwide, from North and South Europe to Asia and the US. "We’re proceeding with baby steps, studying the segment, listening to the clients and creating something unique. Step by step, after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day," said Roy Capasso, commercial director.
The Overshadow will be presented during the Autumn boat show season in Cannes, Genoa and Fort Lauderdale. Capasso suggested that alongside the Overshadow debut, Swan will have further news to reveal at the show.
Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Group chief executor officer, said, “The entry into the motor yacht segment makes Nautor Swan a very complete brand, able to respond to any need of the market.”
