German design company Newcruise (of Luna and Sapphire renown) are showing some of their innovative new yacht designs at the Monaco Yacht Show this week. Exhibiting in the Designers Gallery, Newcruise have two particularly eye-catching designs – MY Tug and MY Cube.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but MY Tug is a 45m explorer yacht (with 42m and 47m versions as well) designed as a go-anywhere yacht, inspired by commercial support vessels and ocean-going tugs. The utilitarian look has been softened by some sleek styling and thoroughly modern design touches. The modular construction system will allow the client to choose tender storage on the aft main deck, a helicopter platform above the tender, and additional space by enlarging the aft bridge deck to create a private sun lounging area.

The other notable design being shown by Newcruise is MY Cube, a modern architectural take on an Art Deco style. Looking for all the world like a 1930s Deco villa on water, MY Cube is a 75m project uses architectural shapes, while paying tribute to classic ships and houses of the Deco era. The conscious decision to move away from more traditional yacht styling, towards something that looks more domestic, is an usual and brave one.
