German builder Alva Yachts has revealed the Ocean Sail 82, an eco-friendly electric sailing yacht concept.
Designed for long-range, off-grid cruising, the Ocean Sail 82 is powered by wind and a 135kW electric motor connected to a generator-powered battery pack.
Alternatively, owners can choose a hydrogen tank with fuel cells instead of the generator for an ultra-green propulsion package. This will give the yacht a “virtually unlimited” range, the builder said.
When the yacht is sailing, the propeller can also rotate counter-wise to recharge the batteries.
Designed by Henndesign Studio with naval architecture by Bad Pyrmonrt and iYacht, the first 24.9 metre yacht is due to hit the water in 2022.
Key materials include a carbon fibre mast and boom and GRP and carbon fibre hull and rig inspired by racing yachts.
Inside, the main layout includes a large saloon and dining area large enough for 10 guests. Accommodation is for a total of 10 guests in four double cabins and an owner’s cabin located at the bow.
A second interior layout is also available which replaces the fourth cabin with an owner’s office. The crew quarters meanwhile allows for a staff of two.
