28m Sunseeker yacht Code runs aground in Croatia

25 October 2023 • Written by Dea Jusufi

The 28.2-metre Sunseeker motor yacht Code has run aground on the islet of Pijavica in Croatia.

The incident was reported by the captain of Code to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Rijeka on 23 October 2023 at 6.35am. The Port Authority of Split and the Port Office of Trogir were also informed.

There were two crew members aboard the yacht, in addition to Code's captain. The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure announced that during a preliminary investigation, "officers of the Split Captaincy found that the motor yacht was stranded with its bow almost the entire length on the island's cliffs."

As there were three tons of "diesel-type fuel" left in the yacht's tanks, members of the DVD Kaštela Voluntary Fire Company delivered floating dams to limit surface pollution in the case of a fuel leak.

Code will soon be towed to a safe position on the orders of the Port Authority of Split, who are conducting an investigation into the causes of the stranding.

The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure has confirmed there were no injuries or resulting sea pollution.
