Azimut-Benetti Group confirms no yachts damaged in Viareggio blaze

26 July 2023 • Written by Katia Damborsky

No yachts from the Azimut-Benetti shipyard have been damaged in a major fire that broke out in Viareggio yesterday (25 July). The fire began at around 6pm local time at Versilia Supply Service, a close neighbour of Azimut-Benetti's Viareggio site.

The fire took several hours to bring under control and the cause of the blaze is unclear, but local media has reported that the Versilia Supply Service building has partially collapsed and a number of vehicles have been destroyed.  "Explosions" reported throughout Viareggio have been attributed to car tyres popping.

In a statement, Versilia Supply Service said it was working closely with employees at the Viareggio branch and thanked firefighters for securing the scene.

No injuries have been reported and a statement issued by local authorities stated that "no harmful substances were burned".
