Since being opened in 2009, Porto Montenegro — situated in the stunning Bay of Kotor in Montenegro — has quickly gained reputation as being one of the most glamorous and sought after marinas in the Mediterranean. It has helped to develop Montenegro’s reputation as the “new Monaco” for yacht charters and drawn superyacht owners towards this jewel of the Adriatic.

Porto Montenegro’s location

Porto Montenegro is situated in the beautiful Bay of Kotor, which is midway along the Adriatic coast and just a short distance from Croatian border. It is served by three international airports — Tivat, Dubrovnik and Podgorica —which all have private jet facilities.

Porto Montenegro’s location makes it a perfect starting point for a superyacht charter in Montenegro or it can be visited as part of a superyacht cruise between Croatia and Montenegro.

Porto Montenegro’s facilities

Porto Montenegro was named The Yacht Harbour Association’s (TYHA) Superyacht Marina of the Year in January and has some of the most extensive superyacht facilities in the world. It currently offers 400 superyacht berths and a further 50 are due for completion this summer.

The marina also offers 24-hour yacht assistance and security, a multilingual team and has a tax and duty-free fuel station.

Porto Montenegro’s history

Porto Montenegro was a historic naval base and has only recently been transformed into a luxury yacht marina. It first opened to superyachts in 2009 and since then has continued to develop and expand its facilities.

The project was headed by Peter Munk, founder and former chairman of Barrick Gold and the investment team include Lord Jacob Rothschild and Bernard Arnault, founder of Louis Vuitton-Möet Hennessey. The idea behind its creation was to build a facility “by yachtsman for yachtsman”.

Restaurants and shops at Porto Montenegro

The marina is complemented by spacious waterside residences, signature restaurants and lively bars. The restaurants vary from traditional local cuisine to Italian, Mediterranean and Japanese and offer some of the best fine dining away from your yacht in Montenegro.

Among the shops you’ll find international brands such as Heidi Klein, SLAM and Carolina Bucci, as well as a host of independent boutiques.

Activities on offer at Porto Montenegro

The marina is also home to a host of other facilities to satisfy every superyacht owner’s wishes. It has a large yacht club, sports club, spa and fitness centre as well as a 64-meter lido swimming pool. The area is also know as a top Mediterranean party destination with clubs and festival organisers bringing in international names such as Eric Prydz and Fedde Le Grande.

Crew facilities at Porto Montenegro

The marina boasts fantastic year-round crew facilities with monthly-organised events and a crew bar. During the winter season the marina even offers crew a free ski chalet in Kolasin, just a 2.5 hour drive from the marina.
