BOAT International Announces New Category for Ocean Awards 2021
The 2021 edition of the BOAT International Ocean Awards will welcome a new category acknowledging the yachts and owners striving to make a positive impact on the health of our oceans.
The Yacht of the Year award, sponsored by Arksen, celebrates vessels, their owners and crew, that have made significant contributions to enhancing the state of the world's oceans. This could be through offering berths to researchers, conservationists and scientists, helping to raise awareness of the threats faced by our oceans, or through hands-on initiatives of their own.
The new award hopes to draw attention to those working behind the scenes to deliver vital ocean saving work across the world and will be awarded to the person or persons who can demonstrate an ongoing commitment to ocean conservation with the help of their vessel. The winner will be offered a generous financial donation, courtesy of Arksen, to help further their ocean conservation efforts.
Nominees for the Yacht of the Year award must be able to showcase how their vessel has been utilised to help achieve their conservation goals, either by adapting or equipping the vessel to suit. Nominees must also provide evidence of the kind of impact the research conducted has had, or could have, on ocean preservation.
Now in its sixth year, The Ocean Awards continues to recognise and reward those that share our commitment to fixing the largest solvable problem on the planet – the crisis in our oceans. Our aim is that the Ocean Awards will gather those who are passionate about improving the future of the oceans. Held in partnership with Blue Marine Foundation, one of the UK’s leading ocean conservation charities, the finalists will be announced in March 2021 and the winners will be announced in the June 2021 issue of BOAT International.
