Book it now: Focus/18 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour
by Zoe Dickens
Timed to coincide with the London Design Festival, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour’s highly-anticipated bi-annual Focus event will return this September with a host of talks, interior design trends, workshops and collaborations.
As always, a highlight of Focus/18 will be the Access All Areas programme which offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at some of the Design Centre’s most prestigious brands. Choose from architect Marco Piva’s deep dive into the cinematic inspiration behind Rubelli/Donghia’s Cinecittà furniture collection, designer meet-and-greets at Cole & Son, Pierre Frey and Artisans of Devizes or build your own eco-garden terrarium with the Botanical Boys at Création Baumann. Those looking for refreshment can also head to Jensen Beds for its ‘breakfast in bed’ event, sample gin cocktails at Stark Carpet or taste test French champagne and Italian prosecco at Colony.
For a more in-depth insight into the world of interior design don’t miss Focus/18’s workshops. Design Centre’s Becky Metcalfe will be delivering her influential trend report while Sophie Robinson, Georgia Coleridge and Julia Begbie will each be examining the psychological and emotional power of colour in a group of fascinating sessions. Elsewhere, Adrienne Chinn will be offering advice on how to best present your home for sale and Judith Wilson will present an essential guide to creative interior styling.
The popular Conversations in Design talks series will also return to Focus/18. Among this edition’s must-sees is a discussion between designers and architects Jonathan Tuckey, Rabih Hage and Edward Bulmer about the challenges working with historic buildings, interiors icon Nina Campbell in conversation with Giles Kime and Allegra Hicks and photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna on translating eclectic personal tastes into unique interiors.
Focus/18 will also be accompanied by an exciting commission by artist Moritz Waldemeyer. Tasked with creating something around the event’s theme of colour, Waldemeyer has taken inspiration from the coronas of a solar eclipse to create an interactive installation using LED lights which illuminate in response to visitors’ movements.
Focus/18 takes place from September 19-21, 2018 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. Visit dcch.co.uk for more information.
