Vintage Cartier bar brooch

Why carry a trunkful of diamonds on every trip when just one clever multi-tasking piece will do? Thanks to these genius designs from Cartier, Chanel and Boucheron, your yachting wardrobe just got a whole lot lighter.

Vintage Cartier bar brooch

Comprised of five shield-shaped diamond clips, this Cartier brooch dating from 1934 is a rare example of one of the brand's early 'novelty' jewels and is being auctioned by Bonham's on December 5, 2015. Totalling 15 carats, the diamond clips are set on a hinged bar allowing the piece to transform into a brooch, bracelet, epaulette or hair jewel.

Estimate: £15,000 - 20,000, bonhams.com
