Members’ logbook: Why the owner of 39m Vijonara keeps coming back to the world’s wildest cruising grounds

20 August 2026 • Written by Kate Lardy

Every month, superyacht owners share where they are and where they’re heading. This time, after a seven-month refit at Pendennis, the 38.8-metre sailing yacht Vijonara is back on the water. Her owner reflects on sailing the Mediterranean, crossing the Panama Canal and discovering remote corners of Fiji.

You were missed at the St Barths Bucket this year…
Yes, in 2025 we won everything in our class, but this past year Vijonara was in the yard from October until the end of April. She went through an extensive seven-month refit primarily for the whole hydraulic system. Now she is like new. An excellent job was carried out by our shipyard Pendennis at its Vilanova premises in Barcelona.

Have you been able to enjoy her since then?
We are back on board sailing at the moment and the yacht is in better shape than ever! We started the first tour from our Yacht Club de Monaco and took her to Portofino, the Amalfi Coast, Capri and the islands in the Gulf of Naples. These are all magical places, but particularly prior to the summer season.
What are your summer plans?
We will revisit the Aeolian Islands and then Sicily – with the Strait of Messina and Taormina being highlights – and eventually sailing in Sardinia, where the wind never disappoints.

What are you most looking forward to?
Sailing from Sardinia into the breathtaking port of Bonifacio  on Corsica.

You’ve sailed all over the world on Vijonara – what have been  your all-time favourite experiences?
Crossing the Panama Canal was a classic adventure. And sailing between Tahiti, Mo'orea and Bora Bora was a childhood dream ever since I read Captain Cook’s reports as a boy. But the most impressive places to our family were the remote areas of Fiji.
