The second edition of the Riviera Water Bike Challenge took place in Monaco on June 17, 2018 with HSH Princess Charlene leading her team, Serenity, to victory.
The event, which was also hosted by Princess Charlene in support of her Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, saw 110 riders across 22 teams race Schiller water bikes around a 22km course just outside of Port Hercule.
Each team was comprised of two elite athletes and three other members with notable participants including Boat International columnist Eddie Jordan, runner Paula Radcliffe and Formula 1 drivers David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Felipe Massa along with THS Prince Albert, who competed as part of the Police Maritime et Aéroportuaire de Monaco team.
Of course, with the Med season now in full swing, riders were joined by many of the world’s most recognisable yachts at Port Hercule. Among them were the iconic Sailing Yacht A, whose designer Philippe Starck also spent time with competitors during the weekend, and 90 metre Benetti Lionheart, who hosted a number of guests keen to get a good view of the racing action.
After a hard day of racing competitors were rewarded for their effort with a gala dinner at the Yacht Club de Monaco attended by Princess Charlene and the members of her winning team.
All proceeds from the event, which is one of the top yachting charity events to support, were donated to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation which supports water safety education and swimming lessons for children around the world.
