Classic Trumpy motor yacht S.S. Sophie sold
by Zoe Dickens
The 24.38 metre classic yacht S.S. Sophie has been sold with Jonathan Chapman at Northrop & Johnson acting for both seller and buyer.
Built by American yard Trumpy in 1947 for George W. Codrington, S.S. Sophie is unique among Trumpy yachts as her hull was built at the New Jersey yard before being towed to Annapolis to be finished.
Designed in a traditional style reminiscent of yachting's golden era, S.S. Sophie is resented in immaculate condition despite her age. Accommodation is for six guests in three cabins configured in a two-head layout with a centreline master queen berth. The crew quarters are located in the bow, split across two cabins, offering excellent separation for the utmost privacy.
S.S. Sophie also boasts a full beam galley and generous saloon with day head as well as a card room/viewing saloon. Direct access to the large aft deck and connecting side decks and bow is from the main saloon while a private raised pilothouse is located above.
Power comes from two Detroit Diesel 6-71N engines offering a top speed of 13 knots with comfortable cruising for up to 700 nautical miles at 10 knots.
S.S. Sophie was asking $925,000.
