The world's first hydrogen superyacht, Feadship's 118.8-metre Breakthrough, has been sold in-house at Edmiston, in what is "the most significant brokerage deal in history". Chief executive Jamie Edmiston represented the seller in the deal, while sales broker Alex Busher represented the buyer.
The brokerage firm also announced that she has now joined the charter market, and will be available for charter exclusively with Edmiston.
Breakthrough was launched in May 2024 from the Royal Van Lent shipyard in Kaag, the Netherlands, hitting the brokerage market shortly after. Shrouded in secrecy throughout her build, her launch unveiled exactly what the industry had been eagerly waiting for: the world's first hydrogen superyacht.
Showcasing a handsome navy hull and crisp white superstructure, Breakthrough's slender and contemporary five-deck profile is owed to British studio RWD, who also penned the yacht's soon-to-be-unveiled interiors.
At the time of her launch, Breakthrough became the largest motor yacht ever launched in the Netherlands. She is now eclipsed by Amels' newly launched 120-metre Project Tanzanite, yet she remains Feadship's flagship. According to Jamie Edmiston, Breakthrough is "the best yacht ever built".

As such, amenities range from intimate features, including a coffee corner and a games niche, to large-scale additions, such as a cinema, library, and even a hospital facility.
First seen on her sistership, Savannah, Breakthrough also features a semi-submerged Neptune lounge. And the list of standouts on board continues, including an 8.2-metre pool with contraflow on the aft deck and a light-enhancing atrium with a staircase wrapped around a lift.
Textured fabrics and natural elements have been used throughout her interior, including leather, marble, rattan, limed oak, and fumed and taupe eucalyptus, all intended to create a "coastal" ambience. Accommodation on board is for a total of 30 guests across a 12-cabin layout (which can also be configured to account for smaller parties) and a crew of 44.
Outside, deck spaces are grand and inviting. A tennis court lies at her foredeck – although it can also be used for basketball – while two Jacuzzis face forward on both the bridge and sundeck.
A notable feature of Breakthrough is her exterior balconies. Fourteen can be found across her profile, as well as seven unfolding platforms, in what became more hull openings than the yard had ever completed before.
Another first, of course, is her hydrogen power. Breakthrough is host to a 92-square-metre storage space for hydrogen, plus vent stacks for the escaping water vapour (the exhaust of this process). As a result, she can minimise hotel load emissions, which, according to the Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI), make up around 70-78 per cent of a yacht's total energy use per year.

Edmiston added, "Edmiston was there at the inception of Breakthrough, and we are proud to continue this legacy as we introduce Breakthrough to the broader market as the exclusive central agent for charter."
Key specs include a 6,500 nautical mile range at 14 knots, a 7,295GT interior volume and a 19-metre beam.
Breakthrough's asking price is unknown.
