Holland Jachtbouw sailing yacht Whirlwind sold
by Malcolm Maclean
The 27.83 metre sailing yacht Whirlwind, listed for sale by Northrop & Johnson, has been sold in house with Brian Commette representing the seller and Simon J Turner acting for the buyer.
Built in aluminium by Dutch yard Holland Jachtbouw to a design by Hoek Naval Architects, Whirlwind was delivered in 1998 and last refitted in 2013. Accommodation is for six guests in three cabins. Two cabins are aft to port and starboard with the third forward to port and storage in each is suitable for long range cruising. All are double cabins and each has en-suite shower facilities.
Perhaps the most important social space aboard is the cockpit, with wraparound seating for six guests to enjoy al fresco dining in comfort at matching port and starboard tables sheltered under a Bimini top. The lower saloon occupies the full beam of the yacht with semi-circular banquette seating around a teak cocktail to port and an office area to starboard. An entertainment centre including a large flatscreen television is located on the forward bulkhead.
Overall, the fit and finish are what one would expect from a yard that has built some of the finest sailing yachts in the world. Teak, mahogany and maple woods are judiciously used with satin or gloss finishes as appropriate. A single 325hp Lugger diesel engine gives her a cruising speed of 10 knots.
Lying in France, Whirlwind was asking €999,000.
