Waterdream Launches 15.8 Metre Day Boat California 52

30 September 2020

Dutch builder Waterdream has revealed its latest project, a 15.8 metre luxury day boat named California 52.

Recently launched, the yacht was built at Dutch yard Van der Valk in just five months and designed by Dutch studio Vripack.

Described by Waterdream as a “revolutionary newborn”, the California 52 features a spacious layout and “curvaceous” exterior lines.

Vripack estimates that 80% of the build materials are recyclable, including the hull and superstructure, which are built from 100% green aluminium.

The large interior with head-height volume features accommodation for five people. Aft, the yacht includes a stern garage large enough to carry a Jet Ski or tender.

Described as “lightweight, strong and nippy”, the California 52 is marketed as a “practical boat for family weekends” with numerous customisation options.

Vripack co-creative director Bart M. Bouwhuis said the greatest innovation on board is the “human centred design approach”, which was applied from day one.

“This ensured the design, build, development and communication on the project remains primarily focused on the ‘human’ aspect.”
