Camper & Nicholsons Design Studio reveals 62m debut concept

Viareggio-based studio Camper & Nicholsons took the opportunity of the Monaco Yacht Show 2026 to unveil a 62-metre superyacht concept, the first complete exterior and interior project from its newly established Design Studio, which opened in September 2025. The project marks a return to the company's in-house design tradition.

Developed around the relationship between architecture, natural light and the sea, the concept introduces a design direction inspired by contemporary architects including Tadao Ando. The project explores the interplay of solid and void, using large openings, full-height glazing and sculptural volumes to bring daylight deep into the interior.

In the main saloon, two vertical voids extend between decks to create channels of natural light, while expansive glazing frames views of the surrounding seascape. Materials including teak, natural oak, travertine, linen and jute have been selected for their natural textures and variation, with a muted colour palette intended to complement the changing light throughout the day.

“From the outset, we treated light as a material in the architectural sense,” said Giulia Galanti, creative director of the Camper & Nicholsons Design Studio. “Every opening, void and glazed surface was studied for the way daylight enters, how it travels through the interior and how reflection and shadow alter the perception of space.”

The owner's suite occupies the full beam of the upper deck and is conceived as a contemporary residence at sea. It features a walkaround berth, large windows and separate dressing rooms and bathrooms on either side. Direct access leads to a private foredeck with a swimming pool. A leather wall treatment depicting an urban skyline provides a reference to life ashore.

Guest accommodation includes a full-beam VIP suite and two further double cabins on the main deck, with an additional double and twin cabin on the lower deck.

The exterior design continues the concept's focus on the connection between the yacht and its surroundings. Two interconnected pools are positioned across different levels at the stern, with water cascading between them via a staircase.

The upper pool has a transparent base, allowing sunlight to filter through the water and into the wellness area below. Fold-down sections of the transom and side decks extend the aft platform at anchor, while frameless glass balustrades are designed to preserve uninterrupted views of the horizon.

Further outdoor space is provided on the observation deck, where a Jacuzzi and sunpads take advantage of elevated views.

The concept is intended to reflect Camper & Nicholsons' heritage while establishing a direction for its future design work. “Returning to those creative roots is an important moment for the company, reconnecting our future ambitions with a heritage that has always placed design at the heart of the Camper & Nicholsons name,” said Paolo Casani, CEO of Camper & Nicholsons.

The Viareggio-based studio works across new-build and refit projects, from initial concepts and interior and exterior design to shipyard selection and project management. It also offers clients access to a digital configurator and a materials lounge in Viareggio.
