10 May 2011 • Written by Raphael Montigneaux

On 21 December 2010, we reported the activity at Cantiere delle Marche. With their Darwin Class, this new Italian shipyard based in Ancona proposed an eco-friendly series of long range expedition yachts.

The first Darwin, a 86' version (26.04m), hit the water two days ago. Christened Vitadimare 3, this pocket superyacht designed by HydroTec accommodates 10 guests in a full-beam master suite, a VIP stateroom and two twin cabins plus two Pullmans. On the technical side, twin economical Caterpillar C-32 of 287kW each allow a top speed of 11.5 knots and a range of 7,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 10 knots.

Vitadimare 3 will be delivered this summer, while a sister ship will be launched also in 2011 and a smaller sister, a Darwin 82, is scheduled for 2012.
