Iddes Yachts reveals fully-electric 55m sailing yacht concept

Spanish shipyard Iddes Yachts has revealed details and renderings of its latest concept, a 55-metre all-electric sailing yacht.

Penned by Iddes Yachts founder Iván Salas Jefferson, the Sail 55 has been designed “for those who have spent years planning extended passages and circumnavigations,” according to the yard.

The yard has described the model as offering the amenities of a 500GT motor yacht within a performance sailing yacht format. Iddes Yachts claim that it is suitable for both “long passages” in “off-the-grid” locations as well as short charters.

The yacht has been designed with a ketch rig to incorporate smaller and more easily managed sails, reducing structural loadings and equipment size on board for increased safety and comfort at sea.

For when wind power won’t suffice, the Sail 55 has been equipped with an eco-conscious, fully electric motoring system, complete with hydro-solar energy recovering systems and large battery storages so that owners can cruise completely without fuel. The superyacht can therefore be run on various operational modes, from full sailing to fully electric or a hybrid combination of both.

There are six cabins on board

Aside from performance capabilities, the superyacht’s design is defined by uncluttered decks and a carefully structured deckhouse that offers uninterrupted, panoramic views from within. Other features include a swimming platform, al fresco dining spaces, storage for a large tender and vehicle.  Six VIP cabins will offer accommodation for up to 12 guests.

“This is possibly the most capable ocean-going superyacht below 500GT now designed. A superyacht worthy to embark on any voyage,” added Jefferson.

This news comes after the yard revealed a 300-metre science exploration vessel in April 2021
