Sunpower solar electric yacht Amantis 7 exits build shed ahead of sea trials

6 May 2026 • Written by Hannah Rankine

The SUNPOWER-ALVA 90 Amantis 7, developed by Sunpower Yachts International, has been rolled out from its construction shed and positioned at the water's edge in preparation for upcoming sea trials.

The shipyard describes Amantis 7 as “the world’s first fully integrated 27-metre solar electric power catamaran of its kind”, combining renewable energy systems with long-range cruising capability.

The superyacht features an advanced solar array integrated across its surface area, designed to harness solar energy for propulsion and onboard systems. The yacht is equipped with next-generation battery storage and electric propulsion systems, which the builder claims will enable emissions-free cruising while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The electric propulsion system is also intended to achieve near-zero noise and vibration levels on board for enhanced onboard comfort.

Over the coming weeks, the yacht will undergo sea trials to evaluate its performance, efficiency and real-world operational capabilities in open-water conditions.

A spokesperson for Sunpower Yachts International said: "This is not evolution — it’s revolution. The award-winning SUNPOWER-ALVA 90 proves that sustainability and luxury are no longer mutually exclusive. We are witnessing the future of yachting unfold in real time.”

The news follows Sunpower Yachts International's acquisition of Alva Yachts, a deal the company said was part of its strategy to become "the world's largest solar-electric yacht company”.
