Theodoros Fotiadis unveils second superyacht concept to be built at new Astra Nord yard

Greek designer Theodoros Fotiadis has revealed a new 87-metre motor yacht concept known as August. It is the second of five superyacht concepts currently under development for the new German shipyard Astra Nord

According to Fotiadis, August is inspired by the summer Mediterranean lifestyle, which he defines as "warm, inviting and effortlessly relaxed". Clean and "confident German lines" define the yacht's exterior, decorated with expansive outdoor areas across her five decks designed for the "sun-drenched coasts of the Med and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean".

"Named after the month that captures the essence of summer, August is more than a yacht - it is a feeling," Fotiadis explained. "A time to slow down, to reconnect and to experience power not as force, but as quiet confidence."

A core feature of the yacht is her open aft design, with its sweeping architecture that creates an effortless connection with the environment on each deck. The designer noted how life on board is designed to be lived outdoors, from the waterfront beach club with its spa, gym, dining area and relaxed social space, to the sunken sofa seating nestled behind the foredeck helipad.

The main aft deck is also a standout – occupied by a large swimming pool and expansive sunpads for far-reaching views across the horizon. Large storage space is also ensured on board, with August host to an extensive toy and tender list, including a limousine tender of up to 11 metres, a seven-metre crew tender, jet skis, Seabobs and diving equipment.

Inside, Fotiadis has opted for a warm sand and "muted" cream colour palette, paired with soft textures and hints of blue. "The palette feels sun-washed and calm, like a late summer afternoon that never quite ends", added the designer. The layout onboard is fluid and architectural, with curved lines designed to echo the movement of the sea.

Lighting has been softly integrated, while large opening doors ensure the indoor-outdoor environment. Each interior space also benefits from bounds of natural light via the repeated floor-to-ceiling glazing adorning August's profile. Accommodation is for 14 guests across five double cabins and two VIP cabins, including a notably spacious, full-beam owner's suite. Further quarters accommodate a crew of 28, including the captain.

Key specs of August include a beam of 14.8 metres, a 3.8-metre draught and an estimated volume of 2,750GT. The yacht will feature a steel and aluminium construction and will be fitted with a diesel-electric hybrid system, expected to offer maximum speeds of 16.5 to 18 knots, cruising speeds between 12 and 14 knots and a range of 5,000 to 6,000 nautical miles.

The reveal of August comes just months after Fotiadis launched the new Astra Nord shipyard in Northern Germany, which is capable of delivering new-build projects of over 65 metres, as well as refit works on vessels up to 295 metres.

Alongside the yard's launch last year, Fotiadis presented the first concept from the series, the 78-metre Neon. Each concept has been designed to "cover the market gap that Nobiskrug left behind", and is ready to be built by the new yard with "advanced engineering, structured processes and carefully selected materials".
