One of the eight is Patrick Coote, managing director for Northrop & Johnson yacht brokers in Europe. Speaking about the expedition, he said: “Millions of people in Ukraine are now without their family, their home, comfort or safety. Putting myself in the same position will hopefully help to highlight their plight”.
The trip is estimated to last 12 days and will start on the beaches of Oldeshoremore on the northern tip of Scotland, before heading towards the Orkney Islands and then passing down the east coast of the country.
Cootes and the team will then head inland via the Caledonian Canal until they reach Fort William where they will continue to the Sound of Mull past the Isle of Skye.
Brokerage company Northrop & Johnson has financially backed the expedition which is being undertaken in support of a project called “Action Ukraine” set up by the Red Cross in Monaco.
Cootes usually deals with boats at the opposite end of the luxury spectrum but intended to embark on a journey that would take him out of his comfort zone.
