Why charter Marala?
Few yachts on the water can match Marala’s blend of heritage and craftsmanship. Originally launched by Camper & Nicholsons in 1931, the 58.8-metre yacht for charter was completely restored in 2023 under the guidance of a devoted owner and Cornish refit facility Pendennis. The result is a seamless balance of period elegance and modern amenities – a living piece of maritime history reimagined for the 21st century. Winner of Best Rebuild at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards, Marala now stands in immaculate condition for charter.
While she may have been restored, part of the charm of Marala is that the wistful glamour of the 1930s remains. Her Art Deco-inspired interiors are crafted from American walnut and filled with elegant fabrics. The interiors have a richness to them that makes her feel classic and grand. Marala is a charter yacht for the classicists and charter guests that like the idea of dressing up for dinner.
Marala also has an illustrious past, from serving in the Royal Navy during the Second World War to welcoming the likes of Frank Sinatra and Salvador Dalí on board.
Interior mood
The interiors of Marala are a triumph, blending the charm of the 1930s with the sophistication of a modern superyacht. Crafted from American walnut sourced from just two trees, her joinery maintains a consistent tone and texture throughout.
While the original Camper & Nicholsons design remains, the spaces feel bright and renewed. The Art Deco influence runs through every space, from the soft curves of the furniture to the muted palette and polished brass fittings, creating a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. The effect is elegant but never ostentatious – a timeless interpretation of classic yachting style.
The main saloon and dining areas continue the glamorous theme with carefully restored fixtures and furnishings that celebrate Marala’s heritage. The space is filled with brass details, mirrors and wood and is filled with natural light.
How many guests does Marala sleep?
Marala welcomes up to 12 guests in six cabins, comprising five doubles and one twin. Each is individually named to honour a part of the yacht’s story, including Evadne, Gaviota, Japan, Savoy and 388, with subtle design details that nod to her illustrious history. The lower-deck cabins feature period-inspired joinery and luxurious fabrics.
The owner’s suite is a standout feature, positioned privately on the main deck with its own study (originally the yacht’s smoking room), and a large en suite bathroom. Designed as a quiet retreat, it channels the romance of 1930s ocean liners with rich walnut panelling, a bespoke chinoiserie wall panel and Art Deco furnishings.
Best deck moments
Much like her interior, Marala’s deck spaces has been thoughtfully restored. The restoration was carefully considered to preserve her classic profile while enhancing her liveability at sea and charter offering. The yacht’s upper decks have been restored to their original proportions, reinstating railings in place of solid bulwarks and opening up sweeping views across the water.
The main deck has plenty of space for entertaining, with generous lounging areas and dedicated al fresco dining. A fixed awning provides shade for long lunches or evening cocktails, while the layout ensures a natural flow between indoor and outdoor living. Period details, such as restored brass fittings and original helm features, remain visible throughout, connecting every space to the yacht’s history.
One of Marala’s most distinctive features is her custom-built copper spa pool on the upper deck, clad in teak recycled from her original bulwark capping. The space doubles as a sun terrace by day and a cinema lounge by night, with a pull-down projector screen that can be viewed from inside or out.
Toys and wellness
While Marala’s spirit lies in her heritage, she is fully equipped for fun at sea. She has an array of tenders and toys that allow charter guests to explore the coastline and hidden coves. Below deck, a dedicated massage room provides a tranquil retreat after a day in the sun.
