British jeweller Alex Monroe has long supported conservation projects with his collections of quirky and wearable nature-inspired pieces. Having supported previously supported environmental organisation Friends of the Earth by including a bee-saving kit with every piece sold from his Beehive range, this year both the charity and Monroe are turning their attention towards the crisis in our oceans. For every piece sold from Monroe's new Oceans collection - a line of marine-inspired rings, bracelets and necklaces depicting fish, shells, turtles, whales and other sea creatures in recycled gold and silver plate - £10 will be donated to Friends of the Earth efforts to end plastic pollution and protect the oceans.

Stay Wild Swim

This recently launched women's swimwear brand founded by ocean enthusiasts Natalie Glaze and Zanna van Dijk positions the fight for the health of the oceans as central to its existence. Created as a way to give back to the seas, every piece of Stay Wild Swim swimwear is made using Econyl. The brand currently offers two designs - a one piece swimsuit and a bikini - in three colourways.

Everlane

Having always prided itself on transparent and ethical production practices along with creating clothes built to last for years, not seasons, in October 2018 American brand Everlane extended this commitment to the oceans by pledging to completely eliminate new plastics from its supply chain by 2021. This will include removing all single-use plastic from its offices and stores as well as using recycled plastic for packaging and in its products. The first step towards this goal comes in the form of ReNew, a collections of coats, jackets and jumpers for men and women created using more than three million renewed plastic bottles.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Quang and Ellie Dinh and designed by a team with experience at Lululemon and Puma, Girlfriend Collective's leggings were borne out of a desire to offer sustainable workout gear without sacrificing on function. Each pair of leggings is created from 25 recycled plastic bottles in an SA8000 certified fair trade factory in Vietnam meaning the company both contributes towards reducing ocean plastic waste and provides its workers with a guaranteed living wage and fair working conditions.

Alongside its long-standing philanthropic campaign One for One - which provides a child in need with a pair of shoes for every pair sold - Toms has teamed up with ocean conservation organisation Oceana to help protect the world's marine life. The limited edition whale collection offers nine styles for men, women and children with proceeds donated to support the advocacy work of Oceana and protect the whales, dolphins, seals, sea turtles, sharks and fish whose habitats and food supplies are being destroyed by harmful fishing practices.

One of the earliest responders to the plastic crisis, Selfridges Project Ocean campaign is now in its eighth year. As part of its activities Selfridges banned plastic bottles in store, promoted the use of reusable bottles, hosted an art exhibition including Studio Swine’s fine art created from ocean plastic waste, launched a Donate As You Dine scheme in its restaurants and encouraged the filling of reusable bottles from its Sea Change drinking fountain.

Adidas

As part of its ongoing collaboration with environmental body Parley for the Oceans, Adidas has launched a project which aims to find ways to turn ocean plastic waste into high-tech sportswear. Its initial efforts were unveiled in December 2015 with a pair of prototype 3D printed trainers created from recycled ocean rubbish. Although those were never available for purchase, Adidas has since developed the Ultraboost Uncaged Parley trainers, created using yarn made from ocean plastic waste, which became available to buy in 2017. The campaign has also seen the sportswear brand team up with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich football clubs to create football jerseys made from Parley Ocean Plastic. These fully functioning, technical kits were worn by the teams during league matches beginning with Bayern Munich's meeting with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on November 5, 2016.

Luxury luggage brand Tumi is making its first foray into the world of ocean conservation this autumn with a new capsule collection created from a blend of virgin materials and recycled nylon and plastic bottles. The finished products are made from 70% recycled materials and represent the first time the brand has been able to offer a sustainable fabric which doesn't compromise on its rigorous quality control. The Recycled capsule collection comprises four lightweight backpacks (two from the women's Voyageur collection and two from the men's Alpha Bravo collection), two zippered pouches and a sling-style bag, with up to 30 plastic bottles being recycled to make each piece.
